Where We Operate

Dubai Base, Ethiopian Source

Ethiogemstone is a Dubai-based gemstone trading company. Dubai is our commercial base and where international buyers reach us; Ethiopia is where the gemstones themselves originate. We want that distinction to be clear: we are not a mine or a mining company, and we are not based in Ethiopia — we are traders who travel to source, and who operate internationally from the UAE.

Our sourcing centres on three regions: Guji in Oromia, our main origin for opal and emerald and the locality behind the 2026 Paraíba-type tourmaline discovery at Abuloo village; Welo, internationally known for crystal and fire opal; and Tigray, a source of fine collector-grade material. In each, we work directly with local miners and cooperatives rather than through layers of intermediaries.

Material we send for finishing goes to Chanthaburi, Thailand, home to some of the world's most experienced gemstone lapidaries, where cutters plan each stone individually around its own colour and clarity rather than applying a standard cut.

How We Work

Our Sourcing Philosophy

Direct, Not Layered

We buy directly from mining cooperatives and small-scale miners in Guji, Welo and Tigray rather than through multiple layers of brokers. This shortens the distance between where a stone is found and who owns it next, and it's how we're able to speak specifically to a stone's regional origin rather than a generic "Ethiopia" label.

Disclosure as Standard

We disclose treatment status on the stones we sell, in line with normal, expected trade practice for each gemstone type (for example, heat treatment in sapphire or minor oiling in emerald, where applicable). We don't claim laboratory certification, mine names or partnerships beyond what we can stand behind for a specific stone at the time it's offered.

Why We Cut in Thailand

Ethiopia is where these gemstones are found; Thailand, and specifically Chanthaburi, is where the world's deepest bench of gem-cutting expertise is concentrated. We see sending rough there for cutting as a mark of respect for the material, not a compromise. Read more in our Journal: Why We Cut in Thailand, Not in Ethiopia.

Who We Serve

Private collectors, gemstone dealers, jewelry designers and manufacturers, primarily reaching us from Dubai, Europe and beyond. Whether you're buying rough to cut yourself or a finished stone ready to set, inquiries go directly to our team.
