Cut & Polished Gemstones

Finished stones faceted and cabochoned by master lapidaries in Chanthaburi, Thailand — ready to be set into fine jewelry.

From Rough to Finished Stone

Not every gemstone benefits from being sold rough. For material where colour, brilliance and yield are best realised through skilled cutting, we send rough from Ethiopia to Chanthaburi, Thailand, a centre for gemstone cutting for six decades. Read more about why we chose this route in our Journal article, Why We Cut in Thailand, Not in Ethiopia.

How a Stone Is Planned

Before a single facet is cut, a lapidary studies the rough crystal's colour zoning, inclusions and natural axis to plan a cut that maximises face-up colour and brilliance while preserving as much carat weight as the material allows. This is a deliberate, unhurried process; a stone is never rushed to fit a shape it wasn't formed for.

What We Offer Cut

  • Faceted stones for transparent material such as emerald, sapphire and tourmaline, including Paraíba-type tourmaline — see emerald, sapphire and tourmaline.
  • Cabochons for material best shown through a polished dome rather than facets, most commonly opal — see Ethiopian opal.
