Ethiopia is a comparatively recent entrant to the world emerald map, but its material has quickly earned attention for its saturation and clarity. Ethiogemstone sources emerald rough directly from Guji, Oromia, working with mining cooperatives on the ground rather than through layers of intermediaries.
Each crystal is assessed for colour, clarity and cutting potential before we decide whether it stays in our rough gemstone inventory for cutters and collectors, or is sent to Thailand for cutting and polishing.
What to Expect
Ethiopian emerald typically shows a vivid, slightly bluish-green tone. As with emerald from any origin, inclusions ("jardin") are normal and expected in the species; we disclose treatment status (commonly minor oiling, in line with standard trade practice for emerald) on every stone we offer.
